about when words collide
Founded in 2010, When Words Collide is an annual festival held in Calgary, Alberta, every August. The first festival took place in 2011, and since then, it has grown into a vibrant gathering for writers, readers, artists, and publishers of all genres. We celebrate all forms of storytelling, including genre fiction, young adult, children's literature, poetry, and more.
Our mission is to support writers at every stage of their journey by exploring the craft and business of writing, publishing, and storytelling. Through engaging panels, workshops, and networking opportunities, we aim to foster a strong literary community and provide valuable resources for writers.
We are dedicated to bringing local talent—both from Alberta and across Canada—to the attention of book lovers, helping connect readers with the stories and voices that inspire them.
