BEYOND THE PAGE EXHIBITION & ART SALE
CALL FOR ARTIST SUBMISSIONSWelcome, all artists, to the Beyond the Page Exhibition and Art Sale! This is our time to showcase the incredible and diverse artistic talents of our authors!
In our new venue at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Calgary, Beyond the Page Exhibition and Art Sale encourages visitors, festival participants, and hotel staff to take in wonderful pieces, all inspired by writing, reading, literature and storytelling in all forms! We are located just outside the Merchants room, on the third floor, which means more visibility for all. We have a minimum 15 spots for artists: applications will be juried by the WWC Art Committee. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Artists will be sent a show contract and link to pay the table fees upon being chosen for the art show. Tables will not be considered secured until paid for.
- Art Show participants must be able to set up between Thursday August 13th, 3pm and Friday, August 14, 12pm, and take down at 5 pm on Sunday, August 16. There is a loading bay that participants can use for bringing in/out their work. A few exceptions can be made for artists who cannot set up at that time. This can be discussed with the coordinators.
- 6 foot tables with black tablecloths will be provided. There may be a minimal amount of space between tables that can be used for standing easels, a display, etc. Please note - this extra space is not guaranteed and cannot stick out from the table space into the walkway. All tables will be alongside a wall, with the option for the table to be right against the wall, or pulled away enough for the artist to sit/stand behind it.
- Artists must provide their own supports, price tags, etc.
- All artist tables will be supplied with a “virtual tip jar” qr code - this was requested by spectators and has been a nice way for spectators to support their favourite artists, even if they are unable to purchase something.
- Artists are welcome to sell directly from their tables, however spectators will also be welcome to pay at the check-out table at the entrance to the Exhibition and Sale. All sales through the check-out will be recorded via square provided by the coordinators. One of them will be onsite the entire weekend. Cash, debit and credit will be supported. Purchases made with cards will be subject to a 4% fee. Within three days of the end of the show, all artists will be paid by etransfer minus the 4% card fee, accompanied by a report of what was sold through the check-out.
- Artists selling their work will be asked to supply a list of their pieces and prices closer to the date of the show. This is to ensure pieces can be inputted into the square app. All artwork for sale must be tagged with artist and price (exceptions being mass-produced items or things like stickers, etc). A suggested template will be provided with the artist contract.
- Beyond the Page Exhibition and Art Sale will be located just outside the merchants’ room and will run the same hours. Please note – before/after hours the area will be minimally secured, although the location is in an area out of the way of regular, non-convention hotel guests. Artists can drape a tablecloth over their wares at night, however nothing will be touched by the coordinators.
- Beyond the Page Exhibition and Art Sale, When Words Collide, and AWCS do not take any responsibility for artwork that is stolen or damaged during the show.
Fee: $30/table
