Aurora Award

The 2012 Aurora Awards are being hosted by When Words Collide. Held under the auspices of the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association, the Aurora Awards annually honour the best of Canadian science fiction, fantasy, and horror literary works, art, and fan activities. All members of When Words Collide are welcome to attend the Awards ceremony and related events, collectively known as Canvention.

Anyone who is a Canadian citizen may vote in the Aurora Awards by becoming a member of CSFFA (the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association). Visit http://www.prixaurorawards.ca/ for details.

The Aurora Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday at 6:00 PM in the Foothills room. Cost of the buffet dinner is $40 (including tip and taxes). Wine, beer and soft drinks will be available at the bar adjacent to the banquet area. The highlight of the buffet, will be a chef carving station serving local AAA Baron of Beef from the Sterling Silver Ranch.

While all members of When Words Collide are welcome to attend the banquet, a limited number of banquet tickets are available (150) and must be purchased before August 1st. purchase banquet tickets here.

The Aurora Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday evening immediately following the banquet. You need not attend the banquet to attend the Awards presentation; just find a spot in the Foothills room where you can view the podium after banquet ends. An announcement will be made in various locations throughout the hotel prior to the Awards ceremony beginning.

Will take place on Friday evening shortly after 10 PM in suite 535 at a social hosted by SFCanada and OnSpec Magazine. The social begins at 9 PM and all members of When Words Collide are welcome to drop by throughout the evening to socialize and congratulate the nominees, many of whom are attending this year. CSFFA will present Aurora Nominee pins sponsored by the Calgary World Fantasy Society.

Will take place on Saturday evening in suite 535. Hosted by IFWA (the Imaginative Fiction Writers Association) the social begins at 9 PM and all members of When Words Collide are welcome to drop by throughout the evening to socialize and congratulate this year's winners.

The Annual General Meeting for Canvention will take place in the Brentwood room on Sunday morning from 9-11 AM. Society business will be conducted, including site selection for the 2013 Aurora Awards. All members of When Words Collide are welcome to attend, though only members of CSFFA are eligible to vote on issues.
